The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has approved the original budget of Tk. 4151.51 crore for 37 public universities in the country and Tk. 37.30 crore for UGC for the fiscal year 2017-2018.
The approval was given at the UGC's 147th Full Commission meeting held on 8 June 2017 with UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan in the Chair, according to a press release.
The meeting also approved the original budget and revised budget of Tk. 3788.97 crore and Tk. 3843.54 crore respectively for 2016-2017 fiscal year for the country's public universities.
The UGC also approved the original budget and revised budget of Tk. 35.05 crore and Tk. 36.23 crore respectively for the fiscal year 2016-2017 for UGC.
The Commission has increased budgetary allocation for public universities and UGC by 9.54 percent compared to the last year.
Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary of University Grants Commission placed the budget in the meeting.
Education Secretary M Sohrab Hossain, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique and UGC Members Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum and Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, among others, were present in the meeting.
