Asian Youth Model United Nations begins in Dhaka

Asian Youth Model United Nations (AYMUN), a model United Nations conference organized by Bangladesh Model United Nations Council (BMUNC), has kicked off at The Westin Dhaka Hotel in the capital on Thursday.

The conference is hosting around 400 school, college and university students from all over the country and it will continue till Saturday.

Participants from neighboring countries are also attending the conference. The theme for the conference is, “Embracing technology, excelling diplomacy.”

This is the first ever international-regional Model United Nations Conference that is being hosted in Bangladesh by Bangladesh Model United Nations Council (BUMNC), according to a press release.

Asian Youth Model United Nations 2017 will be an opportunity for people to gain a greater understanding of diplomacy.

The factors affecting diplomacy and how technology has been contributing to it will also be covered in the conference.

BUMNC was established in Bangladesh in 2015 and since then the organization has been actively working towards promoting efficient MUN practices in Bangladesh.

Ahmed Kamal Khan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Prime Bank Ltd, is the chief guest of the event; Prof Dr. Charles C Villaneuva, Pro Vice Chancellor of American International University of Bangladesh, the special guest and Shazeeb M khairul Islam, Founder & President of SBYA-GLOBAL, the guest of honor.

Extracurricular activities such as MUN give students an opportunity to enhance their knowledge alongside improving their speaking skills. MUN being an extracurricular activity that mandates students to engage in real-life scenarios sharpens their ability to think critically, negotiate and win.

The youth of Bangladesh are passionate about reforming the country for a better future. AYMUN gives participants the opportunity to submit solutions for problems that they are passionate to solve. Proposals can be submitted in the form of business model or social venture and a selected project will receive Fellowship of BMUNC.

American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), Prime Bank Limited and Ifad are the sponsors of the conference and Georgetown International Relations Association is the academic partner.

The Financial Express is a media partner of the event.
