A look on the impacts of Smartphones

In the modern era of highly configured and much attractive technology the demand for cellphones are increasing day by day. Due to so many comfortable features smartphone’s now become a common choice for consumers along with the business activities as it was initially intended for business purpose only. These days almost everyone is using smartphones but do we really know the background behind it or why actually it called as smartphone’s. Smartphone is nothing but a special type of gadget which equipped with innovative sensors like “accelerometers” or even “Gryscopes”. Accelerometers are responsible for displaying screens in both portrait and landscape mode, while Gryscopes make it possible for games to support motion-based navigation.  Earliest touch screen smartphone’s used resistive touchscreen displays, which requires the use of slender pointing objects known as “styli”. Later on most of the models like iphones and android phones employ capacitive displays which features multi-touch finger gestures. Even though smartphone has been in market since 1993 but actually it was meant for the industry users as enterprise devices and those phones were too expensive for the consumers to use.

Smartphone has impacted almost all walk of human life. The prominent areas where impacts of Smartphone are obvious include business, education, health, social life and sports.

Smartphone are enabling people to make communication in much more comfortable way, even without television getting chance to watch the matches while travelling, getting habituated in tons of entertainments. People are frequently travelling with pick and drop facilities due to the several apps like – UBER, TaxiTaxi, TomTom, JamCam etc. and also getting chance to order late night foods but all these only got possible thanks to the introduction of smartphone’s . So from one side it’s making more roam for the people to run their business staying at home and another side providing much more options to lead their life in comfortable way.

While taking preparation for the exams earlier it was mandatory for us to seat at home waiting for the books or else for laptop. But now students are getting solutions using the smartphone’s rather waiting for the laptop or books.

It is known that every good things come up with negative impact also. So, considering this few are the risks I just want to highlight for the betterment of the users:

  • Staring at a small, bright screen for hours on end can be very bad for eyes particularly if using it in dark room. Because HEV lights are getting emitted from screen, so staring at phone and tablet may damage your eyes permanently. HEV light is that portion of the visible light spectrum that comprises light with the shortest wavelengths, which carry the greatest potential to damage living tissues. Long time staring at the screen also impacts our physical health and suddenly we start to explore the impact on our mental well-being as anxiety disorders are on the rise.
  • Smartphone’s can also increase the fear of missing out (fomo), a characteristic that can makes one person be paranoid of being left alone and giving them the worries that they had more fun than them. It increases the anxiety, procrastination, stress and more likely check their phones instead of focusing their task.
  • Young couples out to dinner pull out their smartphones to check messages, emails and social network stuffs even before scanning the meals, and check their phones repeatedly throughout the meal time.
  • People crossing or walking down the street giving concentration on their phones which led into several accidents or tripping over or crashing into obstacles.

According to the survey of smartphone addiction completed by the National Information Society Agency in 2017, the percentage of smartphone addiction was 38.4%, which was found to be higher than the internet addiction of 7.7% The higher figure in teenagers to individuals in their twenties than in those in their thirties to forties implies that this problem may worsen in the future. More than 66% parents think that their children are heavily dependent on this device.

The smartphone, used without caution and self-awareness, can be the center of a circle of self-damage, depersonalization and wastefulness for its owner just as easily as it can be a gateway of easier living and enlightenment. Without a doubt smartphone has great power but we just need to learn great responsibility that should go with it.
