ICAB observes International Accountancy Education Day

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), the first founding member of SAFA in Bangladesh, observed the International Accountancy Education Day on Friday for the first time in the country.

On the occasion, a colorful rally was brought out by leading members of the institute which was also attended by multitudes of people from different CA firms, and public and private universities.

SAFA President ASM Nayem FCA, acting ICAB President Mostafa Kamal FCA, Chairman of Dhaka Regional Committee-ICAB Muhammad Aminul Hoque FCA and SAFA Executive Secretary Mahbub Ahmed Siddique FCA ushered the rally from Hatirjheel all the way to CA Bhaban in Karwanbazar in the city.

Speaking at the starting point of the rally, ASM Nayem said the International Accountancy Education Day is observed by countries across the globe on November 10.

In light of this, the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) has decided to join the world in illuminating the importance of accounting and the people in the profession therefore celebrate the International Accountancy Education Day on November 10, he said.

The SAFA President also said, “The date (Nov 10) happens to bear a great significance for the accountancy community. Italian Mathematician and Franciscan friar, Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli authored a book titled “Summa de Arithmetica Geometria Proportioni et Propotionalita” (Everything about Arithmetic, Geometry and Proportion) which was published in Venice on November 10, 1494.”

First of its kind, the book aimed to summarize the mathematical knowledge of that time period.

It is considered to be the first printed essay on double entry bookkeeping called “Method of Venice” and was a direct base of some widespread works on mercantile accounting.”

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh is the national professional accountancy body and research institute in Bangladesh.

Professor Kalimullah hoped that participation of renowned international researchers and experts in the seminar would add new dimension to the quality and standard of research works at DWIRTI of the university.
