A three-day debate competetion ends at CU

With the slogan of ‘Transparency in Climate Finance, Awakened Conscience, Invincible Youth, shall surely Resist Corruption’- a three-day long inter-university debate competition held at Chittagong University (CU) on Saturday.

The competition was organized by Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) with the cooperation of Transparency International (TIB) and Chittagong Metropolitan Concerned Citizen Committee.

The program was held at CU Business Administration Faculty Auditorium with a colourful inaugural ceremony on Thursday morning.

While inaugurating the competition as a chief guest, CU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury said, debate on Climate Governance & Finance is very important on plight of upcoming COP 21 Summit in Paris later on this year.

He thanked CUDS for actively playing the role as Central Debating body of University in positive representation of CU.

He also welcomed all the participating institutions to enjoy hospitality of CU and urged TIB for organizing this kind of debate competition in future so that students can get better knowledge in the field of debating sector.

After inauguration, guests opened a Cartoon Exhibition and then a Plenary Session was held where M Zakir Hossain of TIB and Prof Dr Danesh Miah discussed on different issues.

CUDS moderator Prof Imran Hossain presided over the inaugural ceremony while Prof Dr. Shirin Akter, Member of Chittagong Metropolitan Concerned Citizen Committee, CU registrar (Acting) Prof Kamrul Huda, Dr Rizwan Ul Haq, Director of TIB was present as the special guests.

More than 180 participants comprising 32 teams from 32 different public and private universities from all over the country are participated in the competition that addressed on Climate Governance & Finance.

The closing ceremony of the competition will be held at BBA Faculty Auditorium on Saturday evening where Chittagong Metropolitan Concerned Citizen Committee’s President Engineer Delwar Majumder preside the programme while CU VC Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury was scheduled to present as the chief guest.
