The principal of Lohagora Islamia Fazil Madrasa in Chittagong was held by police on Saturday allegedly for devising plans for carrying out “subversive acts”.
The principal, M Fatehul Qadir was arrested from his madrasa, said Lohagora police station officer-in-charge M Shahjahan.
The police officer said Fatehul is a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami and there is the allegation against him of “organizing the party and of planning subversive acts”.
Police also filed four cases against Fatehul Qadir on charge of the allegations.
The president of the madrasa governing body, Arman Babu, said they had cautioned the principal earlier not to conduct political activities on the madrasa campus.
Fatehul Qadir, however, denied the allegation and said he was trapped in a conspiracy. He also claimed that he had no links with Jamaat-Shibir.
