Borsha has no father. Her brother is in jail. Her mother, who is her only refuge, works as domestic help.

Borsha lives in the Keshabpur slum in Rajshahi city. Her father Abdul Aziz has passed away and her mother works as a domestic help. He brother was a mason. When his wife committed suicide, his in-laws filed charges against him and now he is behind bars. Borsha's elder sister is married. Borsha lives with her mother and second sister.

Borsha's house is on the edge of the river Padma. It has no windows and the roof is so low, one has to bend over to enter.

Borsha said that her sister was meritorious too, but could not continue with her studies after SSC. She would work at a clinic, but does not have that job anymore. Borsha has got admitted into Rajshahi Polytechnic to study general mechanical trade. She is worried that she will end up like her sister too.
